Game Gavel

Shmups

An incredibly important but much overlooked part of Video Gaming is sound. Sounds can determine and differentiate good and evil, danger and safety, paradise and hell. Good music in a game can become so addictive that you end up humming it even though you do not realise you are doing it.

Mr.Do, Spy Hunter, Dig-Dug, Pooyan all had samples that we all hum to this day. You hear them in your sleep, in your waking hours, in the queue for the bus, the train, while at work, on and on and on.........

As homage to the great sound programmers of the day we present this page of samples for your pleasure. Let the memories of that certain arcade game flood back.

Click on a marquee to hear those familiar sounds of yesteryear and be transported back to the arcades of your youth.
